Buzzfeed UK have exposed a similar fake story circulating on social media the same week, claiming that the army was marching into London to instate a lockdown.
The Minister for the Armed Forces, James Heappey MP, thanked Buzzfeed for debunking the story.
The UK Government has told UK residents to stay at home, and only go outside for food, health reasons or work (only if they can’t work from home). The Police can issue a fixed penalty notice to members of the public who don’t comply. If an individual continues to refuse to comply, they will be acting unlawfully, and the police may arrest them where deemed proportionate and necessary.
