UK residents shouldn’t leave home on a certain date in April as the risk of contracting the virus reached a ‘peak’.
Misleading. At the time it was too early to know the peak of the pandemic.
The Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England said on Thursday 26th March that “it would be far too early to predict” a peak in Coronavirus infections as social distancing measures have only just begun.
The aim of the UK Government’s social distancing measures is to avoid such an acute peak of infections during a short period, instead to spread that peak, or ‘flatten the curve’, over a longer period of time in order to decrease the burden on critical care facilities across the UK.
